Desktop Pet - Good Alternatives For A Dog Or Cat

Pets are fun and they have been proven to reduce stress. Some people, due to their living situation, are unable to own pets like dogs and cats. However, there are some pets that will fit on a table to even your desk at work.

Desktop pets are a great idea to add scenery to your desk or your small apartment. Believe it or not, there are many pets that fit in a small tank or habitat. These pets typically require little care, and are fun to watch.
Before you consider a pet at work, make sure it is allowed. Some places may have rules in place preventing any pets. Also, make sure that your co-workers will not be nervous having your chosen pet around. You do not want to cause tension at work. Your goal is to make a positive impact with your tiny pet.

As you might have guessed, a fish is one of the most popular desktop pets. Some fish can fit in a tiny vase or glass. Ask someone at the pet store how much space the fish needs to swim around. You want to make sure that your fish will be happy and safe in the environment you provide. Beta fish or goldfish are both colorful and easy to care for. They are not pricey and typically do well in smaller fish tanks or other containers.

Another fun option is a frog. Many companies sell baby frogs, or tadpoles, that will change into a frog. The tadpole often comes with its own habitat and food. You may be able to find these at pet stores, too.

Hermit crabs are a fun way to bring the beach to your desktop! These pets are cute, cheap, and easy to care for. You can purchase a fun, painted shell for your crab and change it out as they grow. They live in a fairly small box that will take up a small amount of space.

If you are feeling adventurous, a tarantula is another example of desktop pets. You may scare off some friends and family with this choice, however. Before you bring home such an eccentric pet, do your research. Make sure your furry guy is in a container that will stay closed and that you know how to care for him.

Hamsters, mice, and rats are great small pets, although if you plan to keep several of them, you will need a larger space. Again, make sure that you have a good, secure habitat for them, as rodents can be escape artists!

As you can see, no matter what your space limitations, you can have a pet. Desktop pets are a great choice for those who live in apartments or who want a pet at work. Just make sure that you know how to take care of them and that you are ready for the commitment.

Relationships and Communication - Pets are Part of the Package

Pets are a serious consideration with regards to relationships. Many people, me included, consider pets to be an integral part of the family. If you and your significant other disagree on the issue of pets, it will cause problems. Having pets, affects many aspects of daily living and for many people their pets are “non-negotiable”

“Pet People” need to date other “pet people” especially if you are looking for some kind of long-term stable relationship. You need to know how your potential mate honestly feels about pets. Don’t ignore any pet “red flags” that you may find, take them seriously and make certain that any issues are honestly and adequately resolved or you and your significant other may need to part ways. You both need to be completely honest about what pets mean to you and your pet “ownership” expectations. I don’t believe we “own” pets but I use the term loosely as a topic of conversation that needs to happen in relationships. I don’t plan to ever live a moment without several pets and anyone in a relationship with me, needs to understand that and take it seriously. If they think, “well as soon as this pet passes away, then I will be pet free”, think again. Pets enrich my life and I absolutely will not live without them as a huge part of my life. For example, my dogs WILL ALWAYS sleep on the bed. I have no interest in keeping them off. I talk with my pets and love my pets a ton! Relationships with pets are like relationships with humans, you get out of them what you put into them. I get so much from my pets it’s unbelievable. I’m very good with them. I talk with them and they understand. It’s amazing! I want everyone to get what I get having pets in my life because it’s such a blessing that I am so thankful for!

There are so many things that need to be communicated about and understood in relationships, but please don’t overlook the animal companionship issue. Many times, I think the importance of it is downplayed. Although it isn’t as important as the child issue, it is a very close second.

Some questions to use in starting to determine where you are both at with regards to your feelings about pets:

1) Are you allergic to animals? If your fiancee were allergic, would you give the animal away.
2) Are there any pets you refuse to live with?
3) Do you allow pets on the furniture?

Pet Care

In an emergency or disaster a Pet Survival Kit should be available for your pets survival. Most people do not think about the health and safety of their pets before an emergency. A pet left to fend for itself in a disaster usually do not survive, mainly because preparations were not made in advance. If you have a home Survival Kit for you and your family and do not have a Pet Survival Kit do not forget to add one. Your pet will love you for it.

If you are like myself and leave your pet or pets indoors during the day with a doggie door to the backyard, always have at least a whole days worth of food and water available as you might not be able to return home during or after an emergency. Keep at least a weeks supply of stored food and water on hand. If you have small and medium-sized pets you should consider a pet carrier if you do not have one, in case you have to transport them to a safe and secure location. A Pet Survival kit or Pet First Aid Kit will greatly increase your pets survival.

Make sure that your friends and neighbors know that you have pets at home. Keep phone numbers of your friends and neighbors on your person so that you can call and make arrangements to care for your pet or pets. If you have a local animal shelter, have their number available if you should have the need to use their services. The whole idea is to be prepared so that you will have the love and comfort of your pet or pets after an emergency.

Pets Can Provide Comfort To The Depressed

They’re cute, they’re cuddly and they can be furry. Sometimes they walk on four legs, sometimes on two. They have funny names. They’re pets. And they are great to have around. And while they are great to have in general, they are even better when you suffer from depression.

Pets are able to provide comfort and unconditional love. They are cute and it can be fun to just watch them play, or to play with them. Especially if you have kids, pets are great to have around. Dogs, cats, birds, even small animals, are a lot of fun to have around. They also give you focus points that will take your mind off of other things. More importantly, it prevents you from feeling as alone. Instead of coming home to an empty house, the house will have activity in it when you arrive. If you have a dog, you will have something to run up to you when you come home. It also gives you something to take care of, a way to have something that you can love no matter what.

Because pets are widely available and there are many different types to choose from, you should think about how much space you have and what kinds of pets you have had in the past. If it is your first pet, or you need a pet that will not miss you if you are home late, then a pocket pet (gerbil, hamster or mouse – yes, I said mouse. They are very cute and quite good pets) would probably fit in better.

California Pet Medical Insurance

California has vast agricultural land. Californian farmers usually have lot of animals on the farm. As pets, animals are a welcome addition for families.

Research has proved that keeping pets has a positive effect on the health of the family. Total responsibility of care of pets lies on the family. There can be instances when these pets become ill or have an accident. Treatment for them can become a financial burden. Many companies in California cover pets under pet medical insurance. These plans reimburse costs for major illnesses and health care is provided to pets through these plans.

Usually pet insurances are for dogs and cats. But there are companies that cover birds and exotic animals. Insurance plans for pets, cover expenses that are incurred during a visit to the veterinary doctor. Major illnesses such as cancer also covered under them. Serious accidents or illnesses may require admitting the pet to a hospital. Medical insurance companies reimburse charges for hospital stay and surgery also. Euthanasia is also covered under pet health insurance plans.

Some of pet insurance plans also cover routine check up. Vaccinations, flea protection treatment, or worm protection, are some of the other aspects that are taken care of by these policies. Exotic birds and animals have special medical needs that require specialized veterinary doctors. Plans are created by combining benefits as per need of pets. Typical services such as beak trimming and treating breathing illnesses in birds are included in pet medical insurance policies. Reptiles, rabbits, and hamsters are some other pets that are covered under medical insurance.

One important aspect to be taken care of before insuring pets is to watch out for existing diseases. Most pet insurances do not cover hereditary diseases or the existing ones. There are a lot of things that insurance companies do not share in the beginning. So before buying an insurance policy for pets, going through the policy documents is of utmost importance.
